The life of a flight attendant took on a glamorous feel and promised a life of freedom, finding love, and marrying well. Because the flight attendant was a desirable figure, she became what women aspired to be and what men fantasized about. The fit on this dress is amazing!  Even if you have had problems with the fit of these Stop Staring dresses in the past, you must give this one a chance!  I, myself, could not wear Stop Staring dresses because the armholes were too small for my big arms, and I am petite, so the waist on the small was too small, but the bust/shoulders on the medium were too big.

BUT - The Couture Dress... The Amelie 1950's A-line Dress - Olive

Red Dress Shoppe's newest design from our signature line!  The Amelie Dress pays homage to vintage 1950's French fashion.  French couture designer Christian Dior's fashion designs dominated the 1950s and created a history in the glamour world.  During the early part of World War II, he served in the French army and then worked for two different design houses during the German occupation of Paris.

In his 1955 Spring collection, the French designer first showed his "A-lines", which described any dress fitted in the bodice, nipped at the waist, and wider at the hips. The A-Line collection featured what became the "most wanted silhouette in Paris".  This silhouette would become a classic all-flattering shape in1950s fashion garments. 

During this era in fashion, details of trimmings and buttons were not spared and the raw materials of Scottish tweeds and English worsted suit materials were renowned as being of exceptional quality.  The wools were also used by the French and the British did everything they could to promote the fine materials with fine designs.

The Riviera 1930's Frock- Ocean

A cotton 1930's style day dress inspired by the Cote d'Azur, the seaside whimsy of the French Riviera.  In the 1930's the Simplicity pattern company described the "House Dress" as:  "Every woman needs a frock such as this - while she is doing household tasks - for it is practical enough and smart enough looking for a dash to the grocery store"

The cool cotton fabrics and the relaxed fit were appreciated in the 1950's by women living in warm climates in this era before air conditioning. And, the wide arm holes and loose fitting waistline were great for doing household chores!

The waist is elastic for an easy fit.  The fabric is very light and is fully lined underneath.  Please be aware the skirt is a bit shorter, hitting just above the knee on most bodies.

100% Polyester.  Hand wash, hang dry recommended.
