The "Bettie" Tailored Shift
Dress Fashion of the
1930’s was directly influenced by the Depression, changing the
foundation of 1930’s styled fashions (from the flapper era) to a more
fitted look. Everyday clothes were now quite simple. Waistlines rose
back to the natural waist, hemlines rose to just below the knee, skirts
became A-line, dress bodices were designed with yokes and tucks at the
bottom of the bodices were popular. Necklines received dramatic
attention often with round edged collars and V shape designs. Bows were
another popular accent!
This 1930's style shift dress comes in black stretch cotton poplin with black/white
polka dotted trim. The neckline has a wide, rounded collar with a
small matching bowtie at the end of the charming "V" neckline.
Beautiful pin tucks and pleating along the bodice
gives this dress a well-tailored, sophisticated look. The pockets
are real pockets tucked seamlessly behind a flattering A-line skirt!

The "Bon Voyage" Starburst Dress The pre-war era
of the 1920’s spawned fashion representing liberation. The Navies were
the embodiment of a nation’s power, and Hollywood produced a string of
musicals which further reinforced Sailor inspired fashion. In the
1920's Coco Chanel turned nautical motifs into her signature style,
popularizing yachting and travel on seas!
The "Bon Voyage" Dress is a cute sailor girl style
dress in contrasting black and white starburst embroidered cotton
eyelet, with a stylized "sailor" flap playfully embroidered "Bon
Voyage".
The heart appliqués double as real functional pockets!
The contrasting front collar tie adds vintage styling to a flattering V
neckline. This dress has a slight A-line
skirt. Side slits open up the skirt for comfort and ease.
100% cotton eyelet fabric with a cotton lining. (note: not stretch
cotton!) Side zipper closure.

The "Mandy" 40's Secretary Dress
In an effort to
comply with the demands of women in the work force, American designers
in the 1940’s created a new style of “office wear” for women, using
fabrics from men’s suits for sillouettes to emphasize the female figure
and oversized bow ties for finishing. Dior introduced the “New Look” in
1947 featuring a return to classic femininity with a nipped waist and
longer narrow skirt lengths, which became the true hallmarks of fashion
in the early 1940s.
This 1940's style wiggle dress is made of a suiting herringbone
fabric woven in
black/grey/red/ivory. The neckline is a classic
"notched" high neckline with single-pieced short cap sleeves.
There is a yoke at the waist which follows by a
pin shaped pencil skirt. And of course, the adorable
over-sized bow tie! This dress has the artistic essence of vintage couture!
